Winter is Coming! Here are Tips to Winterize Your Car This Year

By November 15, 2016May 12th, 2021Uncategorized

As November winds down, we can see that more and more leaves are crowding the ground and the frost is beginning to set in. The threat of snow is coming, and your car is vulnerable. We at Freedom Insurance Group, Inc. want to make sure you’re prepared for anything in these coming months because driving through Pennsylvania’s snowy weather can be a harrowing experience that requires composure and concentration. However, the weather is just as hard on your vehicle as it is on you. We compiled this list of basic tips to help you winterize your car so you’re ready for Old Man Winter.

  • Check your tires.
When the temperature drops, your tires will most likely lose pressure. It is important to confirm that your tire pressure is up to par in all four and your spare. Also, because having worn tires on a slick road is extremely dangerous, it is necessary to make sure they have a good tread. You can also consider switching to winter tires, which are designed for optimal tread in slippery conditions. Along with that, be sure to check your tire-changing equipment just in case anything happens, like potholes – we’re all familiar with those.

  • Make sure you have visibility.
If your windshield wiper blades are leaving streaks on your glass or if they are showing any signs of cracking or stiffness, it is time to replace them. Also, with all of the dirt, mud and salt residue being sprayed off the road, it is necessary to keep your windshield washer reservoir filled with a washer solution that contains an antifreeze agent.

  • Keep your gas tank full.
A full tank of gas prevents moisture from freezing in the gas lines while also preventing you from running out in freezing winter conditions.

There are so many other tips we want to share with you, but we could go on and on. When you’re in doubt, get your car a tune-up to check your cooling system, battery, engine oil, etc. to make sure everything is okay and ready for the winter. At Freedom Insurance Group, Inc., we believe that if you treat your car with care, it will last you through the hectic months ahead. We think of you like family and want everyone to be safe and happy this coming season!
