With the latest NFL football season officially underway, we want to offer our customers some essential tailgating safety tips. Below are some essential tips for safe tailgating this season.

Gas Grill Safety

Before cooking with a gas grill, you can check the hose for any leaks by applying a little soapy water. If the propane is leaking, you’ll see bubbles appearing from the leaking areas, and you should get the grill professionally repaired. Additionally, leave the lid open when you light the grill. If the flame goes out while you are cooking, switch off the grill and wait at least five minutes before lighting it again.

Secure Your Valuables

In recent years, tailgating has become a high-tech experience. People bring along wireless speakers, satellite TVs, and expensive computer equipment to a game. While you are inside the venue watching the game, try to make sure that your valuables are locked out of sight. Also, secure chairs, barbeque grills, coolers, and other essential tailgating items.

Remove Your Trash

Leaving your trash on the ground or strewn across a parking lot is annoying to other tailgaters, and can be potentially dangerous. Before you head into the stadium, clear up your tailgating area. Remember to take some heavy-duty bags before you leave your house. It’s also useful to know the nearest places that you can recycle bottles, cans, and other recyclable items.

Use Sunscreen

An excellent tailgating party ideally includes many hours of sunshine. Even on cooler days, you should try to protect yourself from dehydration and sunburn. Be sure to reapply sunscreen throughout the day, wear sunglasses and a hat, and drink plenty of water to remain hydrated.

Pack a Fire Extinguisher and First Aid Kit

Even if you’ve been grilling for decades, you should always be prepared for the worst. When using a grill, try to keep a fire extinguisher nearby. Even if you don’t need it, it could save another person from injury. Also, pack a first aid kit just in case a broken bottle or sharp knife leads to a cut or injury.
